Seven refused bail on joint larceny charge

After vandalism report…
SEVEN persons appeared in Court yesterday on a joint charge of larceny of things affixed to a building owned by BK International.

Sherwin Bristol, 32, Toby Standford, 29, Wendell Fleming, 20, Howard Russell, 26, Ulric Da Silva, 25, Elaine Jacobs, 45 and Angela Albert, 26, were not required to plead before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.

Particulars of the indictable offence said, between December 29, 2009 and January 12, 2010, they stole boards, louvre glass, a bathroom and toilet set and electrical fittings, to a total value of $ 831,250.

On the objection of Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, all of them were refused bail and remanded to prison, prior to the case being transferred to Christianburg Court, Linden, for January 19.

The Prosecutor said the building was left unattended by a security guard and Police received information that it was being vandalised, after the accused were seen removing the booty and packing it into a truck which was driven by Russell.

Telford said a search was carried out and most of the things were recovered from Russell’s home.

Telford added that more charges will be laid against the accused, soon.

Defence Counsel Rexford Jackson, in a failed bail application, said none of the prisoners on remand have previous convictions.
