A 70-year-old man is in police custody following the discovery of his son’s body on the roadway not far from their home around noon yesterday.

Dead is Inshan Ali, said to be in his 40s, of Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara.

Reports are that father and son had been drinking, and were involved in a heated argument earlier in the day, when, in a fit of rage, the father dealt the son a telling blow to the head.

Ali’s body, when discovered, bore a number of bruises and lacerations.

No one could say for certain what the argument was about, though neighbours did admit that the pair had been enjoying a few drinks before they fetched away.

They said too that the Alis make their living by fishing, and share a modest home at the head of their street.
