DCC to host Night of Remembrance for Colin Wiltshire

IT’S with great sadness that we at Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) learnt of the passing of a distinguish member and former British Guiana opening batsman, Colin Wiltshire, who died last Friday in Trinidad and Tobago.

The 74-year-old Wiltshire also opened the batting for the Queenstown-based DCC, which he represented with character and distinction.

Known for his array of strokes and exquisite timing, he had an average of 34.00, with his highest score being 197. During the period he represented British Guiana in eight first-class matches from 1958 to 1964 and as a member of DCC, he substantially contributed to the development of many young cricketers.

In honour of this former great batsman, DCC will be having a night of remembrance and reflection of the life and contribution of the late Colin Wiltshire. There will be an open session for an hour allowing persons to pay tribute and share experiences about this former great player.

The event, which is jointly organised by the DCC and the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), will be held at DCC pavilion today from 18:30 h.
