..Local Jags down Suriname 2-1 to take second place
THE Overseas Guyana Jags ladies football unit deservedly won the three- way championship involving the Local Guyana Jags with a 2-0 win against Suriname, but it was the Local lasses’ 2-1 come from behind win over Suriname on Saturday night which brought cheers from the crowd and eventual winners the U.S. based side at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.

The Locals came from a goal down to beat Suriname to gain the second position as ten Dutch girls had to be contented with the cellar spot.

Mervil Blats had placed the Dutch speaking nation’s team in the lead in the 7th minute but the locals came back to level the scores through Alicia Wilkinson who netted in the 40th minute. Urged on by the vociferous crowd on hand the locals then got the winner which came from the boot of Lorrianna Toney in the 90th minute.

At the conclusion of the series the United States based players formed an arch and allowed the Local Jags to pass through in recognition of the victory over Suriname after the overseas team had won both their games, beating the Locals 5-0 and Suriname 2-0.

At the end of this the presentation was made where the winners, Guyana‘s United States based side received the championship trophy from Colin Klass, president of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF).

The Local Jags for their effort received the second placed trophy from Chief Executive Officer of Linmine Secretariat Horace James while Vanessa Dickenson, chairman of the Guyana Women’s Football Assocaition handed over the third place trophy to the Surinamese side.

In the individual awards on offer the Most Valuable Player went to Nikkiti Persaud of the US based Guyana team while the Best Goalkeeper Award was handed to Local Jags Ronetta Alberts playing in front of her home crowd and the Golden Boot Award was won by the tournament’s top goal scorer with three goals, United States based Guyana side striker Ashley Rodrigues.
