GUUS Huddink is set to sign a two-year extension as Russia’s national manager despite being linked with Manchester City, his agent has told BBC 5 live.
City executive chairman Gary Cook asked about Hiddink’s availability after his current deal runs out in August 2010, said agent Cees van Nieuwenhuizen.
But the club insist no approach has been made and they have no intention of hiring the former Chelsea boss.
City manager Mark Hughes has been under pressure after one win in 10 games.
Hiddink has been courted by several major clubs after Russia failed to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
“Gary gave me a call a couple of days ago and said ‘would it make sense that we have a meeting to discuss the future of Guus Hiddink after his contract has finished?'” said van Nieuwenhuizen.
“I said ‘no, I don’t think so’ because Guus has a new contract offer from the Russian federation for two more years and there’s no reason for Guus, or myself, to have an official conversation.”
He said Hiddink was under contract with Russia until August 1, 2010.
“There is no reason for him to jump to something else, even if there was an opportunity,” added the Dutch agent.
“He has been linked to other federations in the meantime. He has been linked to other clubs, if it’s Manchester City or if it is Chelsea, or Juventus, but there is no reason.
“He left this morning for a holiday and he will think over his future. When he gets back mid-January he might have made up his mind.
“I expect him then to make a call to the Russian federation and say ‘let’s sign this contract for two more years”.
Manchester City insisted they have made no approach for Hiddink and did not intend to bring him to Eastlands.
A two-year extension would see Hiddink through Russia’s qualification campaign for the 2012 European Championship in Poland and Ukraine.
