14-year-old Gibson hits ton for DCC
A PUGNACIOUS ton from 14-year-old middle order batsman Andrew Gibson took Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) to a comfortable 136-run victory over Transport Sports Club (TSC), when action in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Lifetime Real Estate (LRE)-sponsored Under-15 competition continued last Thursday.
Playing at the DCC ground, the home team won the toss and opting to take first strike, posted an imposing 234-9 from their 50 overs, with Gibson leading the way with 124 which included 17 fours, along with Nicholas Bollers’ 31.
Zadd Singh (2-26) and Sulaiman Moakan (2-34) were the principal wicket-takers for TSC, who were bowled out for 98 from 29.1 overs in reply, with Ganesh Singh showing some resistance to the Queenstown-based club’s bowling, hitting five fours in his 39.
Jainand Sukhu (3-8), Akeem Greene (3-15) and Michael Shalim 3-20 were the leading wicket-takers for DCC.
Gibson returned yesterday and playing for the Under-19 in the GCA/Yhann’s Engineering Services Under-19 competition led the scoring with a resilient 43 (2×4), and along with Omesh Danram 26 (2×4) and Jahron Byron and Jason Bishop 13 each, helped DCC reach 152 before they were bowled out in the 37th over by Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO).
Abdul Rahzim (2-27) and Poorendra Persaud (2-21) led the bowling for GYO, who, despite a resilient 66 from skipper Davendra Deosarran which included seven fours and two sixes, along with Persaud’s 33 (3×4), fell short by nine runs in their run chase, as they were bowled out for 143 from 38.4 overs.
Dino Choo-Wee-Nam (2-8) and Rajiv Singh 2-23 helped snatch victory from the jaws of defeat against the visitors.
