Taxi driver in duo charged with robbing passenger

MAGISTRATE Hazel Octave-Hamilton yesterday refused bail to two men charged with robbery under arms.

Consequently, Richard Craigen, 28, of Lot 66 Broad Street, Charlestown and Cecil Davis, 26, of Lot 67 Shell Road, Kitty, both Georgetown addresses, were remanded to prison until December 21.

The indictable charge said the accused, on December 15, robbed Belina Silva, at gunpoint, of a Brazilian passport, an identification card, seven pennyweights of raw gold and cash, making a total loss, to her, of $252,000.

Police Sergeant Shellon Daniels, prosecuting, said Davis, a taxi driver was hired by the virtual complainant to take her home but followed the woman into her yard with Craigen and another accomplice who has not yet been arrested.

The Prosecutor said Craigen and Davis grabbed Silva’s bag and escaped with it and its contents.

Daniels said Craigen admitted to the Police that he was involved in the crime but Davis told the Court he was not fingered on an identification parade.
