70 houses built in scheme amidst Pomeroon forest

THE Government of Guyana, in collaboration with Food for the Poor Inc. and United States based Roethelia – Little Red Foundation, has started a big housing scheme in the once forested Siriki Sand Top, Upper Pomeroon River.

Construction of 70 wooden two-bedroom houses has been completed and they are painted in different colours.

The project also comprises a community centre, library, store, water trestles and tanks and sanitation blocks.

Each house has its own latrine and bathroom, said Project Manger of Little Red, of Miami, Mr. Liony Batista.

After a visit to the location last Friday, he declared: “It’s a real dream come true.”

Batista said he was impressed with the work done by members of the Siriki, Abrams Creek and Jacklow communities, who carved out a beautiful scheme in the middle of forest.

He said the Regional Administration in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Regional Chairman, Mr. Alli Baksh and Vice-Chairman, Mr. Vishnu Samaroo also contributed significantly to the reality.
