Shivpersaud and Bishun spur Diamond to victory

BCA/Neville Sarjoo Memorial Competition
DIAMOND defeated Nandy Park by 23 runs last Saturday at the Providence ground, when action in the East Bank Cricket Association (EBCA) organised Neville Sarjoo 40-overs-a-side cricket competition continued.

Their victory was orchestrated by an aggressive and unbeaten 60 from skipper Chandrika Shivpersaud, complimented by a five wicket haul from the experienced off-spinner Ramotar Bishun.

The right-handed Shivpersaud struck six fours and three massive sixes in his innings as his team reached a challenging 210 for 5 from their innings which was reduced to 36 overs due to a late start, while Bishun snared 5- 34 runs from seven overs to help dismiss Nandy Park for 189 in the 34th over.

Shivpersaud got vital supports from Terrence Sukhu (43) with whom he also shared an impressive 78-run fourth-wicket stand, while former national under-15 player Jagdesh Bishun chipped in with a fine 46 at the top.

Sukhu reached the boundary on seven occasions, while the little right-handed Bishun stroke four fours and hit a maximum, while fast bowler Trenton Bernard was the most successful bowler for Nandy Park with two for 36 off his allotted eight overs which consisted of two spells on a responsive pitch.

When the hosts batted, they were pacing nicely at 90-1 in the 10th over with opener Mohanchand Persaud and Ravendra Madholall (11) posting a quick 86-run second-wicket stand, but once they were separated, the innings struggled.

The right handed Persaud hit six fours and a six in his 55, while skipper Mark Anthony batted patiently to score 31 and a rapid 26 from former national opening batsman Rohan Sarjoo, but Ramotar Bishun continued to pick up wickets at regular interval.

Jagdesh Bishun was also in the wicket taking business, nabbing two for 32 off seven overs.
