KMTC to rename Grand Stand in honour of late club president

THE Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club of Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, will dedicate its newly constructed Grand Stand to the memory of the late Deo Kharag, who was the president of the club from 1955 to 1976 when he migrated to the United States of America.

During his presidency the club grew from being a small track to one of the leading race tracks in the country.

Many of his relatives, who reside in the United States of America, will attend the ceremony, among them being one of his sons – Ron, owner of Metro and progressive businessman in New York.

The ceremony will take place on Monday December 14 at 14:00 h at the club’s race track. The Kharag family is sponsoring the feature event of the club’s race meeting to be held on Boxing Day.

The winner of that race will receive one million dollars and the Deo Kharag Memorial Trophy while the runners-up will receive $500 000, $250 000 and $125 000 in respect of their finishing order.

The race is for horses classified ‘C’ and Lower over one mile and most of the country’s top horses are expected to take part in this event. Among them will be The Message, Great Memories, Jumbo Joy, Sweet Caramel, Sequin, Annie’s Playmate, Irish Gel, Miss Republic, Lil Pinch, The Cash, Miss Orientate and Matera 21.
