The Charity – Urasara Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) has proposed to spend some $900,000 on garbage disposal during 2010.
The Council Revenue and Expenditure Budget for 2010 will see a sum of $75,000 being paid each month to a private person to remove garbage from the market and public road areas.
Charity, which is earmarked for township status, has the biggest market day on Mondays and the piling up of garbage on those days is a major concern for the Council.
The Council has recently developed a garbage disposal site at Charity and constructed a new road leading to the area.
The budget document which will be presented to the RDC for approval has proposed to collect a sum of some $17M as revenue from stallholders and casual sellers at Charity during the new year.
Chairman of the NDC, Mr. Ayube Khan, said the Council has placed garbage bins in strategic areas around the Charity commercial centre but some residents and sellers are still dumping garbage in waterways.
