ACTING Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday granted self-bail to Darius Barrington after the virtual complainant in his larceny from the person case declined to give evidence.
Barrington, 22, of Lot 46 West Ruimveldt, pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on November 29, at La Penitence Market, he stole a $65,000 gold chain from Amrita Jalaladeen.
Police Sergeant Krishnadat Ramana, prosecuting, said the jewel was retrieved from the defendant’s person in Alexander Village, also in Georgetown.
Jalaladeen told the Court that Barrington has a two weeks old baby and committed the crime because of frustration.
She said the defendant’s wife is not employed currently but they are trying to settle the matter.
The magistrate directed the investigating policeman hand back the chain to Jalaladeen, in Court today, in Barrington’s presence.
