THE National AIDS Programme Secretariat (NAPS) and the Regional Administration in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) hosted a health fair and cricket match on Anna Regina Community Centre Ground last Saturday.
The events were among the activities to herald World AIDS Day in the Region and NAPS Coordinator, Ms. Jennifer Ganesh said the focus was on enlightening and educating the general public about HIV/AIDS.
She said the theme for World AIDS Day is ‘Universal Access and Human Rights’ and the Ministry of Health is providing information on HIV/AIDS to persons of every age group countrywide.
Scores of persons who attended the health fare were given free health checks on blood pressure, blood sugar and HIV tests.
Staff from the Ministry and NAPS also distributed brochures, t-shirts, pens, condoms, key rings and stickers to persons who attended the fair, many of whom won prizes for answering questions on HIV/AIDS.
The fair also featured a live concert with poetry recitation, songs, dance and drama, all based on HIV/AIDS.
The day’s programme concluded with a walk, by members of the Hope for All Group, starting at Capoey and ending at Anna Regina on Essequibo Coast. (Rajendra Prabhulall)
