Man shot in Sunday robbery still semi-conscious

DEXTER McDonald, 33, of Lot 67 Bent Street, Werk-en-Rust, was shot and wounded when he intervened in a robbery Sunday night.

Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) confirmed that the injured man is in its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a semi-conscious condition, nursing a gunshot wound.

The Police said they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting of McDonald, who was found, by a relative, in Princes Street, Wortmanville, another part of Georgetown, with a bullet wound in his abdomen about 21:40h on Sunday.

Relatives told the Guyana Chronicle yesterday that the plumber had left home to visit his girlfriend in Princes Street, where she and her niece were attacked by two men on a motorcycle.

The attackers grabbed a gold chain one of the women was wearing and McDonald went to their aid but was hit by one of two gunshots fired in his direction by the robbers who escaped.

Police took McDonald to the GPH and he underwent a surgical operation but remained a patient there up to press time.
