A short while ago during a memorable adventure project in the dense mining area of Guyana, I vividly remember a walk of about 30 miles in slush mud, traversing over steep hills with a back pack and other luggage and even passing by some strange looking characters.

During the return aspect of the trip, I did go off track, came to a dead end and the only thought that came to mind was to retrace my steps to the starting point and fortunately I didn’t had to go all the way back.

After the completion of that aspect of the adventure, it was said to me that I have got to have guts like a samurai for taking off on such a trip without any form of protection. Honestly, it was never of any importance because I was only focused on my agenda.

The above all came back just after reading about the miner (Kurt Rodrigues) who just recently lost his life from an attack by a jaguar in the Marudi Mountain area in Rupununi.

It might very well be that the deceased didn’t carry any protection and was simply overpowered. Nevertheless, I wish him peace and my respect is extended to the bereaved family members and others.

Life’s adventure experience within the dense forest area is an entire different ball game and should I be on another mission in the near future, I would definitely be more prepared with protection from any attack. I also have absolutely no response to anyone who feels that I am on a quest by promoting cruelty to animals.

As a matter of fact, my favourite animals are the ones with wings and from readings, I also fell in love with “Millie” the bilingual world famous macaw who, at the opening of EXPO 1967, at the Guyana Pavillion, swore both in French and English.

I would be so appreciative if anyone can come forward and share any further commentary on Millie.

In closing, thanks to the Guyana Post Office for its dedication of a First Day Cover/Issue dated November 6, 1967 with the photo image of Millie in colours of blue and yellow, and I am proud to be the owner of a copy which is one of my prized possessions within my collection of stamps.
