VANDALS broke into a tomb, at Exmouth Cemetery, last Saturday night and damaged an expensive casket in which 69-year-old Pitman alias ‘Flash’ was buried.
After he died at Bounty Hall, also on Essequibo Coast, the deceased was entombed Saturday afternoon following a funeral service at his home, attended by several relatives who arrived from New York in the United States.
However, on Sunday morning, a visit to the burial ground led to the discovery that the concrete tomb had been desecrated.
Relatives of the dead man suspect that thieves had wanted the casket and the suit of clothing in which the man was laid to rest but could not succeed in taking them because a wedding reception was held in front of the cemetery and many persons were on the road late into the night.
However, the intruders left the deceased in the casket outside the tomb which had to be re-sealed after the casket was put back inside.
