ID card distribution ongoing in Region 4

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) began the distribution of National Identification Cards for persons registered during the 2008 House-to-House registration exercise in Registration District No. 4 (Region 4) last Monday.

General-Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party, Donald Ramotar, collects his new ID card at the Plaisance Community High School.

Distribution of ID cards in Districts (Regions) 5, 6 and 3 will begin on November 13, 14 and 15 respectively. This will be followed by distribution in Regions 1, 2, 7, 8, 9 and 10 shortly after.

GECOM said that approximately 272 temporary distribution centres have been established countrywide to provide easy access for registrants to uplift their respective ID cards. These centres will remain operable up to and including December 31,and the hours of distribution are 15:00h to 19:00h on Mondays to Fridays, and 10:00hrs to 16:00 hrs on Saturdays and Sundays.

Registrants are advised to bring their “pink slips” which were given to them at the time of their respective registrations to facilitate the prompt delivery of their ID cards as the internal administrative procedure to serve registrants who are not in possession of their slips is a time consuming one.

Further information pertaining to the ID card distribution exercise, such as the specific distribution centre where a registrant is required to uplift his or her ID card, could be accessed through any of GECOM’s hotlines. The hotline numbers are 225-0277-9, 226-1651, and 223-9650.
