‘Nothing to Laugh About’ set for month-end comeback

THE satirical series of skits that rocked the nation a few months ago will again set stages afire with a number of shows, beginning with the first staging at the National Cultural Centre on August 28, 29 and 30.

Veteran actor, Richard Narine, will be appearing with the cast for the first time, along with Clemencio Goddette, Gerard Gilkes, Rajen Tiwari, Simone Persaud, Shaunette Somerset, Imran Kazin, and Joel Fraser. Special guest artiste will be producer/director Maria Benschop’s nine-year-old son, Ryan.

Maria, who also penned the skits, says that this is a show that is meant for the entire family to enjoy together, as there is no vulgarity.

Coming from a family that straddles all the divides, be it politics, race or religion, she says that as such, although her skits are satirical in nature and do not spare caricaturing anyone, there is no vindictiveness — as has been the hallmark of many Guyanese satirical productions — but just taking funny potshots at everyone, so that people can see the lighter side of our very serious society and laugh at themselves.

According to Maria, her group of actors has outdone themselves, and she promises that patrons who enjoyed the first production, some returning several times at the various venues, will enjoy this second production even more, because there are even more skits.

They are rollicking with fun, and above all, they are being introduced to an audience for the first time. Showtime at all venues is 20h00, and patrons are asked to be on time to avoid a crush and consequential delay in starting-time.

Tickets, which are going fast, are on sale at Giftland’s; The NCC, Johnny P Supermarket, Nigel’s Supermarketn and at Matt’s Record Bar.
