GUYSUCO employee escapes attack by masked, armed men in East Coast backlands

TWO armed and masked men dressed in camouflage attire yesterday attacked a Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO) employee in the volatile East Coast Demerara backlands, but the employee managed to escape his attackers who were trying to ‘tie him up’.

According to the Police, the incident occurred around 10:50 h yesterday when GUYSUCO Field Supervisor, Seudat Ramdial, 25 years, of Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara, who is attached to the Enmore Estate was proceeding out of the backdam on motor cycle CD 7831.

The Police said when Ramdial was in the vicinity of the Haslington Middle Walk Bridge, he was confronted by two men who struck him off the motor cycle with a piece of cane.

The men who, according to the Police, were reportedly masked and armed with a firearm and a cutlass and dressed in camouflage uniforms, attempted to tie up Ramdial during which there was a scuffle and Ramdial said he managed to escape into a nearby canal and ran into the canefields.

“He subsequently met up with a GUYSUCO security vehicle and was brought out to Enmore where the matter was reported to the police,” the Guyana Police Force reported.

GUYSUCO security personnel recovered the motor cycle along with Ramdial’s helmet, wrist watch and a haversack with books at the spot where the incident occurred.

Police patrols have since skewered the backlands but have not located the two assailants.
