WIPA and Dinanauth Ramnarine should lay off the legends of West Indies cricket. Their achievements on and off the field and their services to West Indies cricket give them every right to comment on a state of affairs that has seen all their tremendous work go down the drain. Instead WIPA should focus on instilling in its members the qualities that these legends possessed of which greed was never one. These qualities as outlined by Dr. Rudi Webster – pride in being part of the West Indies team, pride in performance, pride in being the most professional and disciplined unit, the competition itself, enjoyment of the challenge and the battle – are sorely lacking in today’s stars who somehow seem to believe, contrary to both practice and theory, that one’s compensation is not a function of one’s performance and output. In the marketplace and the world of work most of these ‘stars’ would have being pounding the pave. Yes there are umpteen other problems but professionals cannot blame external factors for lousy performances day in, day out. The simple reality is that the buck stops with them on the field of competition.
