ON Wednesday July 29, 2009, the Kaieteur Newspaper published on its front page and page 15 an article entitled “Accounts clerk buys $60Million house. The article made defamatory inferences about me, in my personal and professional capacity when it published my photograph with the article. The said story was also aired on the July 28, 2009 on Prime News, Channel 9. The Editor of both outfits is Adam Harris. I, unequivocally state that I was not involved in any negotiations for any purchase of property which was owned by Mr. John Willems as the article suggests. However, as a Civil Engineer, I gave my professional opinion on the state of the building to the then prospective purchasers. I have no other involvement. Therefore, Kaieteur News’ claim that I first contacted Willems is a deliberate and vicious lie to malign me and to mislead the public.
No person sought a comment from me or sought to verify the claims made in an effort to tell the truth. This was deliberate since the authors and publishers of the article are on a malicious campaign to bring disrepute to me in my personal and professional capacity.
The authors and publishers of the said article are irresponsible, unprofessional and unethical in the course of their reporting.
I demand that Kaieteur Newspaper and Prime News retract the story and issue an apology of same prominence for their defamatory publication and broadcast.
I am seeking legal advice and my counsel in the future will deal with the matter.
