Government has injected another $10M of the promised $120M it agreed to provide the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) to enhance the City.
Roads in Cummings Lodge and Agricola are among the works slated to be done with this sum.
“It is intended that we commence work in Cummings Lodge and Agricola from the 27th of this month. The engineers have already presented a programme for the works that are going to be done, and work is expected to commence on schedule in those areas,” City Hall’s Town Clerk, (ag), Yonette Pluck-Cort said at a press briefing at City Hall.
She indicated that works have been completed in Cummingsburg and Tucville; however, the M&CC’s maintenance crew will remain in the areas to maintain the level that the municipality considers desirable.
The Ministry of Public Works has also commenced works in the Tucville area, upgrading and overlaying Eden Street between Jackson and Perry Streets.
Among the works to be carried out around the City are maintenance of parapets and minor drainage works.
According to the Town Clerk, the major drainage works around the city will be done with the help of the municipality, while the road works that have been identified would be done in conjunction with the Ministry of Public Works which will be supplying the materials.
Engineers from the Ministry and the M & CC will be visiting Agricola, Cummings Lodge and Turkeyen to solicit unemployed persons shortly, in order to provide them with temporary employment. (GINA)
