Drain blocked by the erection of fence

I wrote about this matter several times to the editors of Times newspaper. This is my first one to Guyana Chronicle; I do hope someone will show some interest. I am now a pensioner living at the above address for almost fifty years now. I’m living in a street facing the East and a drain is in front of my yard in Anna Regina.

My neighbour on my right hand has a bar or rum shop and beer garden. Her neighbour has a nursery, play and day care group.

The bar woman had a concrete fence and she made that into the wall of her building, filled the drain and put her fence in the drain space so there is no space for a drain anymore.

These two people dug gutters in their yards and leave their waste in front of my house in my drain. My drain is stagnant.

I don’t have to explain to you about the urinal drained into a stagnant drain and how it smells. I made lots of reports to the regional chairman, mayor, town clerk, junior and senior health inspectors. The Town Clerk chased my two daughters out of the office one time, saying that he is fed up of hearing about this matter over and over again. He told them not to come to his office again.

The smell is so high that one day I threw some husks in the drain to get their attention. Thinking they will send back hoe to clean the drain.

The Town Clerk got the news in a minute and came himself and threatened me that he will take me to court if I don’t clean the drain.

I had to clean it because I am very poor, I don’t have enough money to eat three meals per day and court needs a lot of money and poor people never win a case in court.

Some of the small heath inspectors are willing to help but not without the help of the seniors. One heath inspector told me that he raised this matter several times at meetings and the Major and Town Clerk paid no attention. His advice to me is to highlight it continuously in newspapers and somebody in Georgetown must show some interest. Can someone please help me I am a poor woman and here on the Essequibo Coast money runs things.
