EVEN the brain of a flea would have recognized that damage would have befallen the entity from which Member of Parliament, Mervyn Williams and Chairman of Region 3 has resigned.
Indeed, the reasons being advanced for the resignation are most damaging to a political party which fancies themselves as an alternative to the current ruling PPP-led administration, particularly in the context of the major nature of our political relationship.
Just imagine, as a prominent member and holder of the chairmanship of one of the ten regions on behalf of the PNC/R, Mr. Williams was subjected to what he described as “offensive” discriminatory remarks addressed to him because he is not Afro-Guyanese. Well, this only convincingly confirms what the majority of Guyanese have been saying at every national elections prior and post-independence stature: The PNC/R is racist and panders to Afro-Guyanese for political support.
According to Mr. Williams, the offensive and discriminatory remarks were made in the presence of the leader of the political party, Robert Corbin, who chose not to upbraid the Comrade who uttered the offending remarks nor did he (Corbin) denounce the statement of being non Afro-Guyanese. When then did he therefore recognise that the statement will damage the party? Maybe he consulted a flea.
