GNA 2009 season commences on Saturday

THE Guyana Netball Association (GNA) will be commencing its 2009 Netball Season with a March Past of all affiliated clubs on Saturday.

According to a release, the march will start at 10:00 h from the National Cultural Centre Tarmac and end at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall Tarmac.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr Frank Anthony will take the salute and delivering the feature address.

Minister Anthony will be accompanied by president of the Caribbean Netball Association, Kathy Harper-Hall of Barbados.

Also expected to attend are the president of the Guyana Olympic Association, K. A Juman-Yassin; Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Alfred King; Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Conrad Plummer; Director of Sport, Neil Kumar; Parliamentary Secretary within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steve Ninvalle; and Director of Youth in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Carl Brandon.

The following clubs are expected to participate in the march past; All Stars Netball Club, Rim Rockerz Netball Club, Emanie Netball Club, Renaissance Netball Club, all of Georgetown, Fearless Flyers Netball Club of NOC, Essequibo, and Doves Netball Club of Berbice.

After the march past, a Presentation and Awards ceremony will be held for persons who achieved academic excellence in 2008/09, and to the winners of competitions held in 2008.

Immediately following the Awards Ceremony, the Under-16 Inter-Club Competition will commence at 13:00 h at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Fearless Flyers are the defending champions. The other participating teams are All Stars, Rim Rockerz and Doves.
