JERMAINE Wilson alias ‘Animal’ appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton yesterday, charged with robbery under arms.
The accused (no address given) faced an indictable charge which said that on June 25 last, armed with a gun, he robbed Ronald Ashby of two gold chains and a gold ring, all valued $280,000.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant reported that Wilson called him and subsequently returned his jewellery.
Telford said Ashby’s statement revealed that Wilson went to his home to return the jewels but the Police did not succeed in getting proper advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
But Defence Counsel Ronald Burch-Smith said Ashby, who was present in Court, is willing to testify that Wilson was not the man that robbed him.
The lawyer said Ashby’s deposition to the Police disclosed that Wilson helped with the recovery of the items stolen by other men.
The magistrate asked Burch-Smith if what he said has merit, why is she in possession of an indictable charge?
To allow the Prosecution to secure assistance from the DPP, the case was adjourned to July 13 and Wilson was remanded to prison.
