ESSEQUIBO Police are investigating an accident involving two motorcycles on the La Belle Alliance Public Road at around 17:00 hrs yesterday that left two dead and two others battling for their lives.

According to an eyewitness, Mahendranauth Deonarine, also known as Sally, of Lima Housing Scheme was riding in a northerly direction with a pillion rider in tow when he collided with another motorcyclist travelling in the opposite direction.

The latter cycle was being ridden by Davanand Narine of Airy Hall and he too was ferrying a pillion rider, whose name has been given as Parbattie Bisnauth of Annadale, East Coast Demerara.

Reports say that all four riders were flung into the air as the two bikes collided head-on and landed a few feet away from the point of impact. Deonarine was reportedly killed on-the-spot, while Narine died while he was being transported to the Suddie Hospital.

The Chronicle learnt that none of the pillion riders had helmets on. Both reportedly suffered serious head and other injuries and were admitted to the Suddie Hospital in a critical condition. Both motorcycles were badly damaged.
