The 30th CARICOM Summit will take place in Guyana from July 2 to 5 and the Guyanese Head of State, who is the incoming Chairman of CARICOM, spoke to the media at Office of the President (OP), Shiv Chanderpaul Drive, Georgetown.
He had been asked for an update on the chairing of the commission, when he replied: “It has been my fault. I had been so busy. I have not consulted with the Leader of the Opposition as yet…
“We have the three members but, as soon as I get over the Heads of Government meeting, I will do so.”
The three members, who were sworn into office, by President Jagdeo, last May 29, are Mr. Fazeel Feroze, Ms. Subhadra Sukhai and Mr. Nigel Hazel, who all took the oath at OP, in the presence of Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
Head of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS) and Cabinet Secretary, Dr Roger Luncheon had previously said the Integrity Commission Chairman is to be appointed after consultations between President Jagdeo and Opposition Leader Corbin.
The HPS said he had informed Corbin, through the PNCR General Secretary, Mr. Oscar Clarke, that the Government will go ahead and appoint the three members.

“I did take the time to point out that the Chairman of the Commission had not been identified nor has there been the necessary consultation on the appointment. But that ought not to prevent us from going ahead and swearing in the three members who have been through the statutory consultative process between the President and the Leader of the Opposition,” Luncheon explained.
He had assured that the conclusion of the appointment of the Integrity Commission would await the consultation, between the President and the Leader of the Opposition, on who will chair it.
