BCB Competitions Committee awards disputed match to Upper Corentyne

… two players also fined
THE Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Competitions Committee, under the Chairmanship of Carl Moore, has awarded the disputed 2009 Tenelec Inc. first division 50-Overs cricket competition, first round match between Upper Corentyne and Albion Community Centre to the Upper Corentyne cricket team.

Albion Community Centre was found guilty of fielding a player, Doodnauth Lallbeharry, although he was not on their declared list.

The problem arose after the Albion Community Centre innings started with Lallbeharry opening the batting and the Upper Corentyne scorer discovering that his name was not on the declared list.

Albion requested to change the list but was not allowed to do so by Upper Corentyne.

The Competitions Committee found the act was not deliberate but it was a breach of the Laws of Cricket and therefore awarded the match to Upper Corentyne.

The Committee also fined Edinburgh’s Ralph Chakalall and Robin Seebarran $2 000 each after finding them guilty of showing dissent to the umpires and for bringing the game into disrepute.

Chakalall was found guilty of appealing long after the standing umpire had turned down his appeals, on a continuous basis, while Seebarran was found guilty of excessive appealing and for unbecoming behaviour on a cricket field.

The entire Edinburgh cricket team has also been placed on a one-year good behaviour bond.

The BCB would once again like to remind all cricket clubs and cricketers of its policy of tolerating no form of indiscipline on and off the cricket field in 2009 and onwards.
