… Police’s Sinclair grabs five for 16, including a hat-trick
ROSE Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB) and Albion Community Centre have advanced into the semi-finals of the 2009 Tenelec 50 Overs First Division Cricket Competition in Berbice.
Having accumulated seven points from four matches, RHTWSB have emerged as winner of Zone ‘B’ despite the outcome of their final preliminary round match against Scotsburg United. Defending champions Albion, with six points from their quota of five matches, will go through as runners-up of the zone.
RHTWSB defeated Port Mourant by 20 runs in the lone Zone ‘B’ fixture, played last Saturday while across in Zone ‘A’, Police stunned Young Warriors by 30 runs and Rose Hall Community Centre got the better of Edingburgh by 48 runs.
The other scheduled match between Blairmont Community Centre and Bermine that was set for the Blairmont Community Centre ground was completely washed out.
Highlighting the matches played were Police all-rounder Michael Newland who smashed five fours and three sixes in a brilliant even 50 while his team mate, off-spinner Albert Sinclair, grabbed five for 16, including a hat-trick.
Young Warriors opener Farouk Hussain was also in the spotlight, smashing five fours and three sixes in a belligerent 75.
At Cumberland, in a match reduced to a 20 overs affair as a result of overnight and early morning showers, Police sent in to bat, were restricted to 154 for eight at the expiration of their 20 overs. They dismissed Young Warriors for 141 in 19.4 overs.
Apart from Newland, Cylus Gibson contributed 27 and Sinclair 20.
Medium pacers Davendra Ramoutar and Jermaine Henry snared two wickets each for 29 and 31 respectively.
In Young Warriors’ effort with the bat, only Ramoutar with 18 offered some semblance of support to Hussain as Sinclair snared the last three wickets in three balls to seal the issue.
Fellow off-spinner Jerry Heyligar assisted with two for 31.
Across at the Rose Hall Community Centre ground, in another 20-over contest, the home team sent in to bat were restricted to 169 for six with Vedesh Singh leading the way with 35, Totaram Seenanand 34, Rocky Bipat 29 and Khemraj Sumir 27.
Off-spinner Ralph Chakalall claimed four for 33, bowling for Edinburgh, who responded with 121 all out in 19.2 overs.
Shafiek Khan top-scored with 38, Ravi made Brijlall 25 and Raid Ali 20.
Sanjay Khan was the chief wicket-taker for Rose Hall Community Centre, capturing three for 19 and was well backed up by fellow medium pacer Vishal Mohabir’s two for 9 and off-spinner Rumesh Munna’s two for 28.
Over at the Port Mourant ground, like the other matches, it was also a 20-over scenario because of the weather with RHTWSB inserted to take first strike, posting 114 for seven in their allotment, Michael Hicks making 38 and Esaun Crandon 26.
Off-spinner Sameer Khan took three for 17 for the home team who were all out for 94 in 19.3 overs.
Krisindat Narine was the only batsman offering some amount of resistance with 20.
Pacer Esaun Crandon picked up two for 9, off-spinner Andre Percival and Eon Hooper two for 10 and 11 respectively, medium pacer Renwrick Batson two for 20 and left-arm-spinner Ravi Narine two for 26, bowling for Rose Hall Town.
