GWI may collaborate with other utilities on billing

GUYANA Water Inc. (GWI), in a bid to foster better consumer relationship, may consider collaborating with sister utilities to improve its billing system, Public Relations Officer Rawle Aaron said Tuesday.

He told the media the utility has recognised the difficulties in its current computerised billing system and some customers will receive a refund for water they did not get.

Mr. Aaron disclosed that GWI has embarked on a collection methodology, in which customers are comfortable with the bills they receive, because it is making adjustments to the bills, especially in areas where there is no potable supply and low pressure.

He said, as a result of the untimely reading of meters, the estimated charging has, indeed, been a challenge to the company and it is considering the implementation of newer technology to fast track the system.

Aaron said gio-mapping may be implemented to ascertain whether this method can be achieved and maximised.

He said, too, that GWI will employ more meter readers and “go back to basics” to better the billing system.
