Warner, Blazer re-elected to CONCACAF top spots

NASSAU, Bahamas (CMC) – President Jack Warner and General Secretary Chuck Blazer were formally re-elected to the FIFA Executive Committee at the CONCACAF’s Ordinary Congress on Monday.

Warner and Blazer were unopposed and returned to the FIFA Executive Committee for another four years to represent the CONCACAF region, CONCACAF said in a press release.

First elected to the Executive Committee in 1983, Trinidadian Warner will retain his post as FIFA vice-president and act as CONCACAF’s Caribbean representative until 2013.

Blazer, of the USA, will return to his post as the representative from North America, a position he has held since 1996.

Meanwhile Captain Horace Burrell, of Jamaica, American Sunil Gulati and Vice President Alfredo Hawit, of Honduras, were re-elected to the CONCACAF Executive Committee.

Burrell, the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president, had been challenged for his post representing the Caribbean by Peter Jenkins of St Kitts and Nevis, who withdrew prior to the Congress.

CONCACAF also formally inducted England-born journalist Clive Toye, former JFF president Anthony James and Nicaragua’s Julio Rocha into the confederation’s Hall of Fame at the congress.

The three, chosen by the CONCACAF Executive Committee, were recognised for their extraordinary contributions to the game and region.

“Today was an extremely positive day for CONCACAF,” Warner said.

“Our Congress allows us to come together as a confederation and continue to work together to strengthen the game in our region. In addition to re-electing three members of the Executive Committee, we were able to honour our three new Hall of Fame inductees who have helped to make CONCACAF what it is today,” he added.

The CONCACAF Congress was staged ahead of the 59th FIFA Congress here yesterday and today.
