THE Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha has reassured its commitment to the training and educating of Pandits and says it will spare no efforts in ensuring that they are equipped for the new challenges, a release from the organisation said. A second batch of 18 students comprising 11 from the Kendra and seven from Corentyne taught by Pandit Shamkumar were all successful at the Balbodha examination with one attaining a distinction and fourteen first grades. Some of these students have recently written the Prarambha examination and are awaiting results. The first batch is currently studying for the Parichaya Sanskritik examination and the Pravesha Gita examination while the second batch is studying for the Sanskritik Pravesha examination. All these Sanskrit and Gita examinations are conducted by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai, India with staff of the Indian Cultural Centre invigilating. Pandit Balabdar reported that certificate of competence are being issued to those who have satisfactorily completed the Pandit examinations and certificates of participation to those who have to improve their standards and in this regard will be continuing classes for them. The certificates were presented by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Frank Anthony who delivered an inspiring address. He urged the Pandits whom he felt are leaders in their community to broaden the scope of their work. He encouraged them to deal with domestic violence and alcohol abuse within their community. He was impressed with the work of the Dharmic Sabha and was happy to participate in the exercise. Mr. Purushottam Shivraj who teaches Sanskrit reported on the progress made since the last exercise. He said the first batch of students who previously completed the Balbodha and Prarambha examination wrote the Pravesha exam last year and all have been successful with two passing with distinction and two with first grade. They have recently written the Prarambha Gita examination covering the first three chapters of the Gita from both a language and a philosophical aspect and are awaiting results.
