The equipment, costing about $800,000, was handed over at the Charity stelling in the presence of Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Sewchan; Region Two Chairman Ali Baksh; and representatives from the community.

The equipment is exclusively for the use of the village and was provided based on residents’ request.

Following a previous visit by the Minister some two weeks ago, residents had apprised him of their transportation difficulties and had asked for help.

The Regional Chairman thanked the Government for delivering on its promise and donating the equipment to the community which is vulnerable because of its terrain. It will also help to improve the delivery of the area’s social programmes.

The village’s mid-wife, Leota Durga, received the equipment on behalf of the community.

Government has been donating several boats and engines to riverine communities to help with their transportation needs. The Abary Creek, a community in the Mahaicony River, was a recent beneficiary.

Several other communities are expected to benefit from similar donations as the year progresses. (GINA)
