After burglary/murder…
HOURS after the burglary/murder at Uncle Eddie’s Home for senior citizens on Wednesday, the security firm with which the victim was employed terminated its contract at the hospice.
Simone Coleridge, who was on duty at the Jackson Street, Tucville, Georgetown complex when killed, had been employed with Roshan Khan’s (R.K’s) Security Service.ours after

The decision to withdraw the service was greeted with shock by the administration of the home, having not been given any prior notice.
As a result, the management hurriedly secured an alternative, so as to ensure the premises are not left unguarded at anytime.
Reports suggest that R.K.’s might have been compelled to quit the job because, following the killing of 43-year-old Coleridge in the reception area of the main building, other guards in the service refused to replace her.
The Guyana Chronicle understands that the arrangement with R.K’s provided for an unarmed guard, but after several attempts to burglarise the place, armed guards were requested.
One such attempt was on the same victim who was attacked with a pitchfork last year and had to run away from her assailant.
Following that occurrence, R.K’s was asked for an armed guard but the $4,000 per hour charge would have placed an extremely heavy burden on the resources of the home.

It was next decided to have the buildings protected by male guards; but too many problems were encountered with them and the situation was being reviewed, with a view to choosing the best option, when Wednesday’s tragedy occurred.
After Coleridge’s death early Wednesday morning, Uncle Eddie’s, again, raised the issue of being provided with an armed guard; but instead, was informed of the withdrawal of the service with immediate effect.
This newspaper has been unsuccessful, for the second consecutive day, in attempts to reach R.K’s Managing Director, Mr. Roshan Khan, and other officials said they were not at liberty to talk about the issue.
Meanwhile, prompt and diligent action by the Police led to the recovery of the booty stolen from Uncle Eddie’s at the time of the killing, including a 20-inch television set, a microwave oven and a refrigerator, all from an abandoned house in Tucville.owever
The Wednesday intruders gained entry by breaking off boards from one of the doors at the back of the largest building in the compound before cutting the telephone cable.
The bound and gagged lifeless body of Coleridge, who lived at Lot 34 Queen Street, South Cummingsburg (Tiger Bay), also in the city, was found lying face down amidst chairs. Her hands and feet were bound and her underwear was down to her legs.
A white bloodstained chairback was tied tightly around her mouth and neck and the ransacked surroundings had bloodstains, pieces of bloodstained toilet paper and a torchlight on the floor.
The corpse of the deceased is at the Lyken’s Funeral Parlour awaiting a post mortem examination as Police continue their investigations into the crime.
