Robbery, assault defendants both refused bail

– one defendant tells court he was never close enough to slap the complainant
TWO men facing separate charges of robbery and assault were both refused bail yesterday by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.

Patrick Simmons, 22, of Lot 20 East La Penitence, who pleaded not guilty to robbing Lorna Archie of a $250,000 gold chain last March 15, was remanded to prison until May 25.

Anthony Bowen, 47, of Lot 170 North Sophia, also in Greater Georgetown, will remain incarcerated through May 18.

He denied that he unlawfully assaulted his neighbour, Yonette Barker, on May 8.

Bowen alleged that the virtual complainant and her husband verbally abused him and spread rumours in the neighborhood that he is a homosexual but said he was never close enough to slap Barker.

However, she broke into tears when lamenting, in Court, that the defendant has been tormenting her since she began to live in the area.
