Larceny charged placed on $50,000 bail

JOSEPH Peters, 21, of Lot 52 Plaisance, East Coast Demerara last Friday appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle charged with larceny

He pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that on April 13, he stole $159,000 cash from Kenton Maxwell.

The virtual complainant related that he and his friend were on their way home when he stopped at North Road to allow his friend to urinate. He said as he was waiting on his friend Peters approached him and asked him if he was doing any business.

Maxwell said he was not sure what the defendant was asking him so he pushed him away and asked him to remove from his vehicle. He added that the defendant then held on to his hands, went into his pocket and took away his money.

The defendant denied the allegation and stated that it was the virtual complainant and his four friends who approached him and asked him if he was doing business.

Peters added that he was in the virtual complainant’s vehicle along with his friends.

He was released on $50,000 bail and the mater was transferred to another court for April 30.
