GSA Easter tournament
POWER House became the early frontrunners of the Guyana Squash Association’s (GSA) Annual Smalta Junior Team Tournament which continued at the Georgetown Club courts on Thursday evening.
According to reports, Power House edged Kungfu Panders 3-2 despite Lydia Alphonso’s heroics in coming from two games down to defeat the fast improving Travis Whitehead.
Power House owed their win to newcomer Remy Rodrigues, who, in his first tournament managed to outclass seasoned campaigner Nicholas Peters.
In the other match of the evening, Mitochondria and Gangsters are still tied at 2-2, with the match between Immanuel Barker and Adesing Trim still to decide the tie. This match was to have been completed last evening.
When the tournament got under way on Wednesday evening at the same venue, the 25 registered players were divided into five teams and started competing in a round-robin format which will end this evening.
The GSA chose this tournament to implement the new scoring system changes which have been adopted by the World Squash Federation and where games are now played to 11 points using point-a-rally scoring.
If there is a tie at 10-10, a player must then win by two points to claim the game.
