ATTORNEY-AT-LAW Mr. Vic Puran, holding in for Defence Counsel Glen Hanoman, on Tuesday, requested that the Prosecution close its narcotic possession case against former national swim champion and Guyana’s first Olympic swimmer Onan Thom.
The defendant and co-defendants, Delon Lambert and Clifton Bonus, are charged with having 10,000 grammes of cannabis (marijuana) for trafficking on April 19, 2008.
But the application for closure was made after the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Telford could not produce a witness to testify before Magistrate Ann McLennan at Christianburg Court.
Puran submitted there was no explanation for the absence of a serving member of the Guyana Police Force.
Police Sergeant David of the Tactical Service Unit (TSU) had been absent on three previous occasions.
However, Magistrate Mc Lennan tuned down the request by Puran and adjourned the trial to May 13.
