BCB issues public apology to Travis Dowlin

THE Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) would like to issue a public apology to Guyana cricket captain, Travis Dowlin, on the usage of the word “racialism” in a joint letter with the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) that was sent to the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB).

The last paragraph of the letter which unfortunately appeared in the national media reads “we have heard some very disturbing reports regarding the type of leadership our correct national captain has been displaying towards some players which borders on racialism,” and would urge this matter to be investigated and dealt with forthwith.

Readers of the letter might form the view that Mr Dowlin is a racist which is far from the truth. The Board regrets the usage of the word “racialism” as Mr Dowlin is widely respected for his performance on and off the cricket field while representing Guyana.

Travis Dowlin has been a faithful servant of Guyana’s Cricket and the BCB wishes to place its admiration on record for his outstanding contribution to Demerara and Guyana’s cricket.

The BCB, however, still supports the other contents of the letter which call for a review of the national selectors’ performances.

The BCB would also like to express regret and fully apologises to Mr Dowlin, his family, club and his club mates for any embarrassment caused by the usage of the word “racialism” and wishes him the best in the future.
