KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) – Guyana plunged to their sixth loss of the WICB Regional first class season when they suffered a comprehensive 139-run defeat to champions Jamaica on the final day of their 13th round encounter yesterday. Without a win in the tournament with just a round remaining in the competition, Guyana’s abysmal run continued when their batting fell apart after being set 330 to win at Jarrett Park. Only the impressive Narsingh Deonarine with an attractive half-century showed any enterprise as the visitors were dismissed for a paltry 190. The left-hander, yesterday named in the West Indies team for the upcoming tour of England later this month, stroked a cameo 55 from just 54 balls to complete his second half-century of the game. He struck seven fours and a six and shared in the most productive stand of the innings, a 63-run partnership for the ninth wicket with Veerasammy Permaul who scored an unbeaten 24. The stand threatened briefly to hold up Jamaica’s advance but leg-spinner Odean Brown claimed both Deonarine and Brandon Bess (0) in quick succession to formalise the result. He finished with three for 38 to lead the attack with fast bowler Daren Powell (3-51) and medium pacer David Bernard Jr (3-60) also claiming three wickets apiece. Sewnarine Chattergoon got 32 at the top of the order while Assad Fudadin scored 21, but wickets tumbled regularly to ensure Guyana’s demise. Earlier, Jamaica were dismissed for 248 after resuming at 215 for seven. Test batsman Brendan Nash, unbeaten on 40 overnight, added just eight before he was bowled by teenage off-spinner Permaul.
