Prisoner claims burglary was retaliation for machine damage

CARL Paul, 44, of Lot 37 Third Avenue, Bartica, was yesterday sentenced to 18 months imprisonment on conviction for break and enter and larceny.

Before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle, the defendant pleaded guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, between March 1 and 18, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Kenrick Perreira and stole two cell phones, an electric fan and a pair of boots in booty worth a total of $92,000.

Paul said the burglary followed an old grievance over the mother of Perreira’s child.

The prisoner said Perreira damaged one of his weeding machines and committed the crime to get money for the repair.

But the magistrate advised Paul it was unwise for him to take the law into his own hands and the right thing to have done was to report Perreira to the Police.
