Probationer charged with windscreen damage refused bail

ACTING Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday refused bail to Viola Monic, a probationer charged with malicious damage to property.

The remanded prisoner, 36, of Lot 270 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on March 27, in West Ruimveldt, she unlawfully and maliciously damaged the $70,000 windscreen on a car belonging to Patrick Weever.

Weever said, on his way to visit his girlfriend, he received phone calls from someone who warned him about the impending damage.

Consequently, on his arrival at her home, he asked two security guards in the area to keep an eye on his vehicle.

But it was when he came out of the house that the defendant pelted a big brick that smashed the glass.

The magistrate ordered a probation report on Monic, who was placed on a bond following a previous conviction, to be ready for April 17.
