Accused in birthday party wounding case remanded

A BIRTHDAY party confrontation, at Matthews Ridge, North West District, caused one of the celebrants to appear before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle, in Georgetown yesterday, charged with felonious wounding.

Colin Vivian Abrams, 27, was not required to plead to the indictable charge which said, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Rollie Webber, on March 26, with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause him grievous bodily harm.

Police Corporal Munilall Seetaram, prosecuting, said the victim was celebrating a milestone at which a brother and sister were in attendance.

The Prosecutor said the accused had gone to collect the siblings from the celebration when the victim saw him playing with the hair of his two daughters and objected.

The objection led to Abrams picking up a cutlass and inflicting several chops on Webber, Seetaram said.

Abrams, however, claimed that he was trying to help Webber who was intoxicated but the latter chucked him instead and he retaliated.

The accused was remanded to prison and the case was transferred to Matthews Ridge Court for April 8.
