DIVISIONAL Commanders have now been mandated to meet periodically with members of their respective communities as the Guyana Police Force (GPF) seeks to strengthen its crime fighting operations and bolster societal relations. The decision was taken at the recent annual Police Officers’ Conference, held last March 18 to 21. Commander of ‘B’ Division, Berbice, Assistant Commissioner George Vyphuis said it is an initiative that is continuing in the ‘Ancient County’ where a high level of camaraderie has always been promoted and exhibited. He said ranks there have sought to strengthen and foster Police/community interactions. Vyphuis announced that, this year, his division will be looking at strengthening it even further. A statement from the GPF Press Office had informed that, following the three-day deliberations, a number of decisions were made, all aimed at enhancing operational capabilities and Police working environment. The conference agreed Divisional Commanders would organise periodical community days to meet the public over concerns. Among the aims are to expand community policing groups (CPGs) to include traffic control, promotion of youth clubs and increased Police involvement in the Scout Movement.
