Armed bandits rob Fyrish family

MASKED gun and cutlass wielding bandits on the Corentyne last Tuesday evening attacked and robbed an overseas-based woman, her son and nephew of more than $2M in cash and jewellery.

At about 23:00h, Gogeeda Poonai and her two male relatives were chatting with other persons after a religious ceremony held by Poonai in Fyrish, when they were confronted by five armed men who held them at gunpoint.

The bandits ordered them to lie on the ground before wresting from their victims, jewellery and $2 million cash.

Another taxi-driver robbed of his vehicle
Yet another taxi-driver has been robbed of his vehicle, a Toyota Carina AT 212 (HB 4372), by criminals who also took away $10,000.

Information received from the police said the victim, Ian Hitkin, of Water Street, Kingston, Georgetown, was hired by a man at about 20:40h Tuesday night from the Stabroek area to go to Plaisance on the East Coast Demerara.

While driving along the Railway Embankment, the passenger requested that Hitkin stop at Goedverwagting. As he stopped, two men approached the vehicle and held the driver at gunpoint.

Police said the taxi driver was hit in the head with a firearm during the course of the robbery before being stranded on the road while the bandits escaped in his vehicle.

Another decomposing body found
THE decomposing body of an unidentified man has been found at the No. 2 Village Foreshore, West Coast Berbice.

The deceased is about 5 feet 2inches in height and is bald headed. The body was clad in a black and grey shirt, black pants and a pair of black shoes at the time of discovery.

Police in that region are requesting anyone with information that may lead to the identification of the body to contact them on telephone numbers 225-6411, 225-2227, 333-2151 to 2153, 911 or the nearest police station.
