At West Bank Demerara…
RESIDENTS of Sisters Village, West Bank Demerara, have been assured that their supply of potable water will resume sometime this week.
A press release, from the Regional Administrative Office in Region Three (West Demerara/Essequibo Islands), said the assurance was given at a meeting on Monday, at which those present included Regional Chairman, Mr. Julius Faerber, Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) Divisional Manager, Mr. Aubrey Roberts, and other officials of the utility.
The release said, at the forum, villagers expressed the view that the pumps at Belle View and Vriesland were incapable of delivery to some parts of Sisters.
But Roberts explained that the pressure in the network has been affected by leakages and wastage.
He added that, over the last six weeks, GWI was able to repair some of the leaks and works are ongoing on others.
Cognisant of the situation, Roberts said, meantime, consumers living West of Duncan Street, between Bindraban Street and Sideline Dam, would get potable water three days per week, the release said.
On the issue of paying tariffs, he acknowledged that the community has been without regular supply for a very long time and gave the undertaking that the necessary adjustments would be made to the accounts of users.
