Accused robber granted bail, larceny defendant refused

TELOSKI Marshall, 23, of Lot 11 Hogg Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, yesterday appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle on a charge of robbery with violence.

It is alleged that, on Old Year’s Day, December 31, 2008, he robbed Malissa Freeman of a cell phone valued $20,300 and, at the time, used personal violence.

The defendant pleaded not guilty and was granted $50,000 bail until January 30.

In the same Court, larceny defendant Compton Barclay, 38, of Lot ‘V’ Bent Street, Wortmanville, also in the city, was refused pre-trial freedom and remanded to prison.

He denied that, last December 28, he stole two gold chains valued $90,000 and a cell phone worth $56,000, amongst booty with a total value of $256,000, property of Ann Hendricks.

Police Inspector Denise Griffith, prosecuting, had successfully objected to the grant, on the ground that Barclay is no stranger to the Court, having faced similar charges and would always allege that he shared relationships with the victims.

Barclay claimed Hendricks is his ex-girlfriend and that, after he decided to break off the relationship, she threatened to have him locked up.

But the woman declared she was never the defendant’s paramour and knew him only as a friend from prison.

She said, while Barclay was in jail, he would, usually, call out to her and she would respond.

Hendricks said, when Barclay was released from imprisonment, she met and invited him to her home for lunch and it was then he stole the items.

The case was put off for January 23.
