Nonpariel residents will have potable water by Monday

RESIDENTS of Nonpariel, East Coast Demerara, have been without potable water supply a week now, as a result of a damaged motor at the nearby Coldingen Pump Station.

Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) Operations Director, Mr. Urie Chandisingh, told the Guyana Chronicle yesterday that a motor has been sourced and is being modified.

He added that it will be installed by Monday.

Mr. Chandisingh pointed out that an investigation has since been launched to determine the cause of the damaged motor at the Coldingen station.

He also called on affected residents to be patient because GWI is making every effort to restore normal water supply to them as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, residents had to resort to alternative avenues to collect water for drinking and other domestic purposes.

It was observed however, that a few residents have installed water pumps to the main pipelines and are pumping water to their homes.

GWI has warned that this practice is illegal; and once these residents are caught, the matter will be addressed. (Michel Outridge)
