A 15-minute flight and five minutes by boat, or an hour’s journey by road and an hour’s journey by boat, or three hours by road through Guyana’s rainforest would get the visitor to the breathtaking HURAKABRA River Resort, situated on the western bank of the Essequibo River, about two hours’ journey from Georgetown.

Visitors to this nature resort get to choose between staying at the beautifully appointed Mango Tree Villa or the cozy Bamboo Cottage, which is set on the waterfront against a backdrop of a tropical forest, bamboo groves, mango trees, and an abundance of bird life.
The many exciting activities on offer at Hurakabra Resort range from water sports such as swimming, jet skiing, water skiing, knee boarding or kayaking, to nature walks in the dense tropical forests.

Bird watching at Hurakabra is exciting either under the mango trees or sitting on the water tank tower, approximately 100 feet above the river. Some of the birds that can be found in this area are the White throated Toucan (Red billed Toucan) along with Amazon Kingfisher, Swifts, and Red and Green Macaws.
An unforgettable experience is an early morning trip to Kalf Island, where sloths can be spotted hanging out in the trees.
It is equally exciting to cross the river at dusk and witness hundreds of parrots returning to roost at Parrot Island.
At Hurakabra, the visitor sees close-up the world famous Greenheart, Mora, Kabakalli and, most impressive of all, the imposing Silk Cotton, the king of trees, towering about 90 feet above ground next to the Bamboo Cottage.
Visitors can expect to spot a jaguar, labba, deer, accouri, wild hog or powis (wild fowl); or monkeys or parrots having a meal in the mango trees; or be awakened by the early

morning roar of the howler monkeys. (Information courtesy of Hurakabra’s proprietor, Mr. Kit Nascimento)
